The Half Grasshopper Yoga Pose

Pressure Cascade · Mechanism

Time to channel your inner grasshopper, because the One Half Locust is a beginner yoga-inspired exercise that has you lying face-down and lifting one leg off the floor like a very chill insect warming up for a jump. It targets your glutes, hamstrings, and lower back with a gentle but effective contraction that builds posterior chain strength without any equipment whatsoever.

You lie face-down on the floor with your legs extended and your arms by your sides or underneath your body for support. You lift one leg off the floor, squeezing your glute and hamstring to raise your thigh as high as comfortably possible. Hold the top position for a moment, feeling the contraction in your backside like your glute is giving you a very firm handshake, then lower with control and repeat. You can alternate legs with each rep or do all your reps on one side before switching — both approaches will make your glutes burn in that satisfying way that tells you something good is happening.

This exercise is beginner-friendly, requires zero equipment, and you can do it literally anywhere — your living room, a hotel room, a park, the floor of your office when no one is looking. It's also a great entry point for people who are new to glute training and need to build a foundation before moving on to weighted exercises. The half locust builds the kind of glute and hamstring endurance that makes your posterior chain useful for more than just sitting on, and it improves hip extension mobility that carries over to better squats and deadlifts. Lie face-down, lift that leg, and half-grasshopper your way to a stronger, more functional backside
